About
Tineke Visser, Artist/Illustrator
I grew up in the Netherlands….land of
windmills and wooden shoes. I lived in a
small village called Makkum by the dyke. As a
child I played under large skies in a meadow
surrounded by water. When the icy north-
westerly winds brought the frost in winter I
would skate along the canals. I started
drawing and painting at a very young age. I
studied Fine Arts at Rietveld Academy in
Amsterdam.
Upon moving to Canada I was impressed by
the natural surroundings of this beautiful
country. Here I started painting mostly
landscapes, animals, and birds. When I had a
family I became an Art teacher and started
teaching at private schools and community
centres. I taught fine arts to both adults and
children. It was during my teaching years that
I got inspired to do illustration work. I love
stories and enjoy imagining and creating the
visual image that accompanies the story.
I now live in Cobble Hill in our “Muddy Duck
Farm” where I illustrate and paint
surrounded by ducks and sheep.
